At Zea, we are constantly making changes and improvements to the business to ensure we are doing everything we can to be more impactful, sustainable and ethical. Here are a few ways we are doing our part for the world we all live in.
1% for the Planet
We are proud to be officially partnered with 1% for the Planet! That means, as a member we donate 1% of all our revenue to help support environmental and social non profits that are committed towards driving positive change for our planet.
Locally Owned & Manufactured
As an Australian family business, all of our Zea products are manufactured here in Australia, and a majority of our ingredients are also locally and sustainably sourced. That means we are able to reduce transportation related carbon emissions.
Eco-Friendly Packaging & Shipping
All jars, tubes, bottles and pouches used in manufacturing Zea products are 100% recyclable in your local council recycling. We also try to ensure all orders we ship out are plastic-free. While a few may escape through the cracks, and we may use bubble wrap on a rare occasion when order is particularly fragile, they are the exception to the rule.
Musculoskeletal Health Australia
We are proud to be officially partnered with Musculoskeletal Health Australia (MHA), a not-for-profit organisation who support people with arthritis, back pain and over 150 musculoskeletal issues, across Australia. Their free B.A.M. helpline offers individiauls to the opportunity to speak with a qualified health care professional about their condition. Their free B.A.M. helpline offers individiauls to the opportunity to speak with a qualified health care professional about their condition. As many of our customers are affected by such conditions, we are thrilled to be partnering with such an important organisation to drive meaningful change together.
Our Packaging
In 2020-21, we moved our biggest selling product, the Kunzea Pain Relief Cream to a 32% recycled plastic tube. We also launched our Kunzea Pain Relief Cream (Bulk Size) to help reduce the amount of packaging we put out into the world. Our design team also uncovered other ways to reduce packaging such as screen printing labels instead of sticker labels which means less packaging produced, as well as increased recyclability of packaging.
Recycled Promotional Material
We are constantly striving to ensure most of our promotional material and leaflets are made from 100% recycled material, and that our product packaging, cartons, shipping boxes and marketing materials are as environmentally friendly as possible.
Remote Working Team
We have Zea staff work from their homes all up and down the east coast of Australia. By providing them with the equipment they need to work remotely, we are able to cut down on our own personal travel and use of commercial resources.
Local Suppliers
Whenever possible, Zea sources from local suppliers. This helps create jobs and thriving local communities. The bulk of our suppliers are environmentally friendly, producing organic products and goods, using sustainable farming methods and eco-friendly production practices.
Sustainable Farming Practices
Many of our farmers, manufacturers and suppliers are committed to sustainable farming and fair trade practices. These farmers do not use artificial fertilisers, pesticides or GMOs when harvesting crops. Many of our suppliers are also COSMOS and cGMP certified, ensuring the quality and sustainability of all ingredients, so we can produce natural products that benefit people and reduce the impact on our planet.
B Corp Certified
Zea is officially part of the global B Corp movement for a more sustainable and inclusive economy. This means we have met the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.
Only the beginning..
We are constantly striving to be more eco-friendly and sustainable in every aspect of our business. Here’s a quick snapshot of what we’ll be working on over the next 12 months:
TERRACYCLE ZERO WASTE BOX - We will be implementing a new recycling program through the TerraCycle® Zero Waste Box™ in 2021/22 FY which allows packaging that cannot be kerbside recycled to be sent back to us so we can guarantee they are recycled effectively through the TerraCycle® Zero Waste Box™ solutions.
CERTIFIED CARBON NEUTRAL - We are committed to measuring our carbon footprint and working towards becoming 100% carbon neutral.
LEAPING BUNNY CERTIFICATION - We are working toward Leaping Bunny Certification. Our products aren’t and have never been tested on animals so we wanted to make it official by joining the Leaping Bunny program.
RECYCLED MATERIAL - We will continue the process of assessing our packaging and taking steps towards making it more environmentally friendly wherever possible.
… plus so much more!
If you have any suggestions on what else we can do to reduce our environmental footprint, please let us know! We are always looking for new ways for us to improve our business for the better.
